The Best Diner Ideas from the Canvas — February 2026

12 February 2026· 3 min read·The Xin Editorial
A wall covered with handwritten notes and diner idea cards

Every table at Xin arrives with a small card. On the front is a question — sometimes about a dish you love, sometimes about a place you want to return to, sometimes about a thing you would build if a restaurant could build anything for you. On the back is a QR code, and once you scan it, your answer becomes an idea on our Canvas. Other diners read it. The best-loved ideas each month move to the Showcase. And the ones that become real — a new dish, an event, a small experiment we run in the kitchen — come back to the diner in the form of a free bowl and a small ribbon.

February 2026 was a good month. Rain came early to Bengaluru and late to the Nilgiris, so the questions shifted. Here are the ten ideas that our diners loved most this month.

1. A rain menu — three dishes that only appear during Bengaluru showers

From an anonymous diner at Xin Den: "The best food on rainy evenings is the food that acknowledges the rain. Give us a rain menu. Something with clay pots, something with cinnamon, something with dark broth. Only three items. Only when it rains." Community votes: 47. Status: In the kitchen. We are testing a Coonoor black-pepper pork clay pot for the next big downpour.

2. A soup for the Nilgiris — cold hills, warm stock

From a Coonoor local: "The Nilgiris don't have a signature soup. Bengal has hilsa jhol. Kashmir has yakhni. What if Coonoor had a soup — smoked eucalyptus stock, hill vegetables, a hand-torn dumpling?" Community votes: 41. Status: Being prototyped for the 14 August Coonoor opening.

3. A ghost kitchen night — chefs from other cities cook one dinner at Xin Den

From a Bengaluru chef: "Turn one Wednesday a month into a ghost kitchen. A chef from another city cooks their signature dish, only for that night, only for the twenty people who booked first. Xin gets the story. The chef gets the room." Community votes: 38. Status: We are reaching out to three chefs — one in Kochi, one in Mumbai, one in Coonoor.

4. Silent bowl Sunday — no music, no menu boards

From a Sunday brunch diner: "Try one Sunday brunch with no music. Bring the room back to the sound of the food. See what happens." Community votes: 34. Status: Silent bowl Sunday runs 24 February at Xin Fine.

5. A menu that changes by the toy train stop — Coonoor to Ooty

From a Nilgiri regular: "You have both Coonoor and Ooty. What if the menu changed slightly with each toy-train stop? A stop-based tasting flight." Community votes: 29.

6. Tell us where the ingredient came from — a farm dot on every bowl card

From a diner at Xin Fine: "Put a small dot on the card that shows where each ingredient came from — pepper from Wayanad, tofu from Munnar. It changes how the meal reads." Community votes: 27.

7. A children's bowl builder — same rules, smaller portions

From a family of four at HSR: "Give the kids their own bowl builder. Same three steps. Smaller portions. They will remember it forever." Community votes: 24.

8. A dish named after this month's most-liked idea

"Every month, whichever idea gets the most votes becomes a special dish for the next month. Named after the diner who wrote it." Community votes: 22.

9. A quieter corner for solo diners with a plug point and a lamp

"Not everyone comes to Xin with friends. Some of us come to think. Set aside four seats with a lamp and a plug. Charge us five percent more if you like." Community votes: 21.

10. A reverse menu hour — you tell us what to make

"Between 3 and 4pm, no menu. Whoever walks in tells the chef one memory of food. The chef cooks whatever comes to mind." Community votes: 18. Status: Being scoped as a Wednesday afternoon experiment at Xin Fine.

If you have been to any Xin, your idea belongs here. If you have not been to Xin yet, come, eat, write something on the card. This wall runs on diners.
